Jaisalmer, India

Known as the “Golden city” in the heart of the Thar desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan, north west India, near Pakistan. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, and is crowned by the ancient Jaisalmer Fort.

I’m currently on a 22 days north India tour with Intrepid tour company. There’s 13 of us including our tour guide. My co-travelers are mostly seasoned travelers and professionals from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Poland. It’s interesting to interact with people of different cultures and personalities but they don’t bother me. I think my job in the psychiatric unit prepared me well.

Thar desert

We took an overnight local train from New Delhi to Jaisalmer(18 hours total), in a not-so-comfortable ride, met some nice, decent locals in the train.
We rode camels for 2 hours until we reached our camp in the Thar desert. Slept in a cold, and windy night. However, the experience was unforgettable.

J[/i]ainism, traditionally known as Jain Dharma,is an ancient Indian religion, founded by Jina Mahavira in the 5th century BC. Our guide told us that this religion had branched-out from Hinduism just like Sikh and Buddhism.

We slept one night in Thar desert. My bed is the last on the right. Cold night but the view of the sky was awesome....Staring at the sky, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of stars and moon on a clear night.

Fort of Jaisalmer. What really makes it unusual is that it's one of the few living forts in the world. Thousands of people reside inside its walls. Our hotel was inside the Fort, somewhere up top.
